I fucking hate the Kings of Leon.

Kings of Leon have a new single out - "Sex on Fire" - which has garnered them some press lately; i.e in the Pitchfork interview with albert hammond jr and stereogum. anyways, I fucking hate kings of leon.

Excuse my language. I've already made a post about this after I saw their terrible, terrible show in Brighton in December, but let me reiterate: I hate kings of leon. A lot of the comments on the stereogum post about them were positive reviews of their live shows, to which I say, what show exactly did you see? Maybe they weren't bringing their A-game the night I saw them or maybe they were disenchanted by a crowd of emo tweens who likely looked eerily similar to the crowd of emo tweens they probably faced at all the shows preceding, but my sympathy is about the size of my pinky nail.

With the exception of KOL, I've never actually spoken negatively of an artist on my blog (limited as the number of posts may be) -- I mean this is coming from the girl who gets so excited about music she writes like teen girl squad talks (re: "sooooo good" or "amAAAzing!!!") -- so I want to point out how especially annoyed at KOL I must be, if you hadn't yet gathered.

I wonder if its some sort of detriment to my musical integrity to stop listening to their music completely even though I loved it before the show and still find it catchy...but no, if they don't give a shit, I don't give a shit. Furthermore, every time I've tried to listen to their music since the show, it makes me angry that I'd continue to support a band who believes their fame is an entitlement, not an honour.

Anyways, to make up for ranting here's some free music...OCDJ, if you will recall he was my dream combo of dan deacon and girl talk. apologies to all three artists should any take offense to the comparison:

OCDJ Smell my cheese

completely agree with your sentiment. I can't stand the band, and find them to be overpompous, try-hard wankers of the highest degree - I'm talking only mere centermeters away from Bono's wankerness on the wanker scale.

It doesn't surprise me to hear they're shite live... and couldn't have put it better - they don't see their position as a privledge...

Cheers

yeh i agree, absolute mud. i dont even listen to the radio and i consider it thrashed common deadness.

i also passionately HATE the KOL they SUCK!! what is their problem??
they sound so whiney, every song is the same and if it's even slightly different then our nation applauds it!! there are so many small time bands out there who are so much more talented!! what has happened to good music??

AGREED. They overplay them on the radio, the songs are whiney. Melodic music can be good, like radiohead, but this stuff is aweful. It's like they copied hinder and made it even weaker.

Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker is the best new band I've heard in a while though. They're from my home town and I'm a big fan. Saw their show in Decemeber '08 at Sound Academy and was blown away. I was expecting good and got even more...

Cheers,

Aaron

Thank you. They're excruciating to listen to and try too damn hard to sound old and whiny... totally fucking annoying. I've never bashed on any band ever. But I'll make an exception for these douche bags.

i agree with you! i don't know a lot about these guys, but i don't like their music. i tried to listen to a couple of songs. maybe they just aren't my style, but i find they're so overplayed, and frankly overrated! anyways, just ain't my style

I thought i was the only one that hated them and their "fking sex on fking fire" tune. I had an outburst at work recently- shouting out "god why the fk do they play their song on the hr every hr?" and then i got the whole office responding- "ohh, i love them, how can you not like K.O.L" yeah? well i just fkin do..they look like they need a good scrub and i noticed an odd stain on the main singers pants--eeewwww!

Thank you for the post. I totally agree w/you. I've been working on music industry for 20 years. I've never feel detesting artist or band for my carrier, but this band's sound makes me puke(I don't even want to type of the name). I really do not understand why people are so crazy about them.

I could see your frustration. I don't for a second doubt that they love their fame. However, they were sort of a lost cause that made it. They attribute their success to God, saying that there must be one if they made it this far. These guys grew up poor, and have come a very long way. And I dunno about emo kids. Before Only By The Night, their music was a lot more... I don't wanna sound authentic, but it wasn't as mainstream. Ad honestly, they ARE famous, and I bet they get sick of playing shows and playing the same songs. I know I get tired at my job. So maybe you could give them a break.

i used to love em, their early stuff was raw and gritty and real, you could play it loud in your car and people would look at ya wierd and you just wouldng=t give a fuck, that was before they because a radio friendly household name. their last two albums have been fucking diabolical, me and a lot of friends have lost all interest in them, they played at oxegen last year i didnt even bother to go to them i just had as few j's in my tent with some mates and blasted out a bitta janes addiction.. They lost a lot of fans with this bollocks and they aint gonna pull a nirvana and get them back....

Don't see what is special about 'em and I find the lead vocals annoying.

But I do like that their mediocrity binds individuals together to reassure one another that they do indeed suck.

*high five*

Yes, I've said it a few times before somewhere else, but listening to KOL is like listening to a cat in heat. It just makes me want to puke, eat it, and then puke it out again. That's why if anybody plays it at work, I have to leave the room and wait for the torture session to stop.
